Freighter became a luxury yacht
The “BELEM” was built as a freighter in 1896 in Chanteney sur Loire near Nantes for the trade on Brazil and the West Indies.
In 1913 she was sold to the Duke of Westminster. He converted the ship into a luxury
Yacht. The next owner was the Irish beer magnate Mr. Guinnes and in 1951 the ship moved to Venice and served as a training vessel.
In the year 1980 the ship was bought back by France and now it is the national pride of France and the oldest ship of their merchant fleet.
Now everyone in France raves about it. The beauty and grandeur of the ship is sung extensively in France; and no one can do that better!
